A new car showroom compared to a used car lot is the first of many differences. From sketchy individuals selling cars on the side of the road to the little independent lots around the city and even up to the pre-owned car lots at major dealerships, the used car business is still loaded with questionable methods. Here are just some of the variables that will have to face while you are shopping for a used car.

Begin by realizing that every used vehicle is an original. There is no factory that you can call and order up what you want. Every used car has a story. You won't find an identical car down the road like the one you are currently looking at. You may find one that is the same year and the same color but the difference in condition can be huge. A perfect vehicle might sell for $17,000 while the same year, make, and model may sell for half that with high miles and hidden damage.

Although the Canadian Black Book does provide a guide as far as prices are concerned, there are no fixed wholesale values or selling prices like you have with new cars. Shopping the price on a used car will be at the very least difficult. The asking price I always fluctuating and is likely to change once mention of a trade comes up. Unfortunately, the formula for finding the perfect vehicle does not exist. You may find a true gem at a run down lot and you may very well purchase a total lemon from a new car dealer. It would be a mistake to assume that independent dealers are all crooked and at the same time, you can not automatically trust the new car dealers either.

Take the time to thoroughly check out a used vehicle. Each use car has its own history. Sometimes, although two used cars may look exactly the same, the difference between the two may be astronomical as far as reliability goes. Most people judge a vehicle by how it looks making decisions that involve thousands of dollars on appearance alone. Take the time to inspect the vehicle. Do a background check- accident report etc. Ask lots of questions. Do not allow your emotions to run the decision making process!

Depending upon the year and mileage, financing rates vary greatly between used cars. Do not be surprised, depending on your credit, if the rate varies as much as twenty percent! Basically, the way it works is, the older the car or the higher the kilometers, the higher the interest rate. Interest rate is a reflection of the risk the bank assumes. The older the car, the higher the chances of it breaking down. Repairs can sometimes be costly and may cut into the budgeted loan repayment for the bank.

Flat Motorcycle Tires - Roll Hard!

Motorcycles with flat tires . . . roll hard! If your motorcycle is cruising along at 55 mph and your rear motorcycle tire suddenly deflates [has a blow out!] you now have a tremendously, dangerous challenge ahead of you. Avoiding other vehicles, controlling the steering, a swaying rear-end making everything unstable makes for a sizable victory when you roll off the side of the road and come to a stop. Congratulations, job well done! More riders than not end in an accident or something worse. All because of their motorcycle tires. Who knows your thoughts if it is the front tire to blow? You better be prayed up.

We all want a sharp looking bike. Once you select your make and model, your interest is on chrome, color, accessories, personal appearance, dress etc. but let us not forget about the importance of the rubber motorcycle tires that get us around. Frame, structure and engine all work together and hopefully are worry free for years. Motorcycle tires keep moving and we need to often watch for wear and safety.

There are two critical places that motorcycles need to be checked before each ride or at least once a month. Both are easy to do and both are many times overlooked. One area is brake fluid. If the pedal is mushy, bleed the lines or have someone else do it. Two, motorcycle tires need to be inspected. Why do we forget these?

Our safety depends on it. We trust our life to the two motorcycle tires under us that have at best two patches of rubber in contact with the ground the size of our two hands at any given moment. Move that along at 55 mph or even at 15 mph and each of the motorcycle tires is taking on a serious responsibility. The attention and care we offer towards our motorcycle tires can help us tremendously with our safety and enjoyment of biking.

Here are some areas where things can go wrong with your motorcycle tires:

- Tire Pressure: Under-inflation may cause uneven wear, loss of control [stability], wears the motorcycle tires out faster and increases the chances of the motorcycle tires failure. Over-inflation allows motorcycle tires to heat up, limit traction [although a slight 10% over-inflation may actually increase traction in wet conditions] and affects the wear. To correct these, use a good tire gauge and check the motorcycle tires when it is cool. Keep the motorcycle tires pressure at the recommended PSI.

- Fluids: Brake fluid, gas and lube spills need to be cleaned immediately. It deteriorates the rubber. Many of the cleaner protectants used on motorcycle tires harm the finish rubber. The best way to clean is to use old-fashioned soap and water.

- Bumps: Potholes, curbs and stones may slash or crack the tire. Look for any problem.

- Accelerated wear: Everyday use may be a potential hazard. Spinning motorcycle tires on take off or holding the brake on emergency stops need to be checked.

- Nails, screws etc.: It is better to find them before you ride than to discover these nuisances 20 minutes down the road. Motorcycle tires that use a tube may “pop” from a nail/screw or sharp object, where a tubeless tire may have the nail/screw actually plug the hole they created which gives you a little more time for repairs.

- Valve stems: Make sure the cap is on. It helps to protect the valve stem from leaking air and protects the stem valve from opening by centrifugal force and leaking air at higher speeds. When you use motorcycle tires with tubes, the valve stem should be straight out. If it is on a slant, the tire has been under-inflated and the tube has moved around the rim. Often this damages the tube and creates a leak.

- Tire weights: Weights need to be firmly fixed to the rim. If they fall off it will throw the tire out of balance and cause uneven wear.

- Rim: Cracked or dented rims are potential problems. You may want to replace wire spoke wheels when they become damaged with a cast or billet wheel that uses tubeless tires. Check with your dealer on this.

- Worn/torn: Thin tread is easier to detect. Flat wear is due to leaning very little and driving mostly in a straight line, resulting in a ridge at the edge of the flattened middle of the tire. This causes motorcycle tires to become unstable in a leaning turn. It wants to warble. The tire may have more wear but it should be replaced. [It is good to replace both front tire and rear tire at the same time.] Sidewall punctures, cracking, cord separation are an alert.

- Tread: Check the grooves called “sipes” making sure that the tread is still sufficient. The lack of having tread affects the cooling of the tire when in use, wear, stability, traction and can cause hydroplaning on wet roads.

When doing your inspection of motorcycle tires get a friend to roll the bike while you check the tread and sidewalls. You may need to get a work stand if alone. Obstacles to having a good inspection are long pipes, saddlebags, fenders etc. making it hard to see the rear tire. Front motorcycle tires are a bit easier to examine. This sounds like a lot but it goes quickly and is easy to do. Make it a habit to check your motorcycle tires frequently.

Some miscellaneous information you need to know. You will have better handling and get more out your motorcycles tires when you keep the rear tire aligned and balanced. Consider having this looked at approximately every1000 miles. Be careful when you have new motorcycle tires it takes the first couple of rides to get traction working well.

So! Happy riding and remember to check your motorcycle tires often.

Momo Corse: The Best Name in Car Accessories

When it comes to talking about the best car accessories manufacturers, the only name that comes to mind is Momo Corse. And there’s lots of good information to be found that will help us all.

While we’re probably all aware of the most common ways to save on gas, such as driving the speed limit, keeping our vehicles tuned up, monitoring tire pressure, emptying the trunk of extra weight, and so forth, there are several other tips that seem to be less commonly known and don’t get very much attention on the web.

So, I thought I’d add these tips here for those of you looking for additional ways to help offset rising fuel costs.
Have you noticed that gas often dribbles onto the pavement from the hose when you’re finished at the pump? Well, you’ve paid for that gas that’s being lost and usually amounts to about a ½ cup. To get this gas into your tank (before removing the hose), quickly turn the handle 180 degrees so that it's upside down. This will force out this gas into your tank. Otherwise, this gas will be wasted or pumped into the next customer’s vehicle ... on your tab.

"Topping off" your tank to get every last drop your tank can hold isn’t a good idea. Sure, we all like to get it to that nice round number, but the truth is that gas pumps don't calibrate well on very short bursts and it's likely you'll be overcharged. Topping off can also lead to overflowing when the gas expands in the sun or if you park on a hill.

The method you use to pay for the gas can also lead to money savings. There are several credit cards with as much as 5% cash back on gas purchases. For example, right now the best I’m aware of is the Discover Open Road Card. So, $3.00 gas actually costs $2.85, for example. If you are a two-car family driving the average of 15,000 miles per year each, and getting 20 mpg, you'd use 1,500 gallons of gas annually. Multiply that times the .15 cash back in the example above and that's a savings of $225. This can buy a lot of free gas.

Do you know that gas evaporates? Yup, to the tune of about 150 million gallons a year. You can minimize this by making sure your gas cap fits properly and has been tightly closed. Also, park in the shade whenever possible. And related to this, in the summertime your air conditioning has to work a lot harder to cool down your sun heated interior.

Added all together, these additional tips can help you keep a significant amount of dollars where they belong … in your wallet.

Fiberglass Speaker Boxes

Most speaker boxes are either fiberglass mat, or MDF construction. MDF while easy to work with and achieve good results, lacks the custom touch. Fiberglass allows you more freedom to do what you want. In this guide we are are building a simple box to show the process of working with speaker rings and glass mat. Many of the same steps apply for a built in sub woofer box.
Start by cutting out a MDF base for your new enclosure. If you are building a built in box, this does not apply to you. Once you have your base, you need to figure out how you want to aim your speaker. How you aim them depends on the type of speaker and personal preference. Once you know how you want to aim the speaker you can start cutting and gluing dowels to hold the speaker rings in the correct alignment. These dowels only need to be strong enough to hold the rings until your first resin application dries. Make your enclosure the correct size to meet the volume needs provided by the speaker manufacturer.

Next using hot glue or stables wrap your form in either fleece or cotton. While fleece is the preferred fabric, I like to use cotton. Cotton will soak up less resin which makes for a stronger lighter box.

With the fabric stretched tight you can apply the first layer of resin. In this step you do not use glass mat. You are just trying to get the fabric to retain a shape you can work with. For resin, I recommend a cheap poly based resin. There is no need for more exotic epoxy resins as the resin will not see high stresses or UV. In any case, you should follow the resin manufactures instructions for mixing and working in only a well ventilated area. If you have experience with fiberglass you can add up to 50% more hardner to speed cure times. Any more than 50% compromises strength and creates too much heat.

Now that you have a rigid form you can begin building your mat layers. I suggest the heavy weight mat used by marinas for boat hulls. The heavy weight mat is both inexpensive and strong. Mix enough resin to lay down 3-4 pieces of mat that are 12"x12". You can cut down a large paint brush to apply resin and stab out air pocket. Another method is to use a fiberglass roller. No matter what method you use keep you tools in paint thinner between coats to prevent them from becoming un-usable. Keep applying mat and resin until the enclosure is complete and sturdy. A good gauge of when the box is strong enough is when it can support your full weight.

Once the sub-woofer box is strong enough to support your weight, completely sand it with 80grit sand paper to provide a good base for the auto-body filler you will apply.
The key to applying auto-body filler, is use thin coats and more coats than you think you need. You will need to sand between coats to prevent de-lamination. Whenever sanding use a quality dust mask.

Keep applying and sanding off the filler until all major holes and dimples are filled. Now is the time to install any speaker terminals or brackets you need to complete your install. I also take this time to remove any dowels that have become loose. For any I cannot remove, I simply mud them in place to prevent them from coming loose later.
If you plan to carpet your enclosure you can stop at this point. If you are going to paint it you need to apply a glaze coat to fill any pin holes and minor dimples left. After the finish is defect free sand from 120 to 600 grit sandpaper in preparation for primer and paint. From here you have a wide variety of choices from lacquer paint to Rhino-Liner.

iPod

Are you listening to your iPod while driving? Hyundai has a long history in the production of coupe vehicles, initially the S-Coupe was sold in the UK and around the world until it was replaced by the Coupe in 1996. Hyundai are the World’s largest ship producer and we would guess from their latest car additions and pioneering five year, unlimited mileage, fully transferable warranty that they would like to be the World’s largest car producer.
Longer and wider than the previous model, the new Coupe is available with a choice of three engines a 1.6, 2.0 and 2.7 V6. A 5-speed manual gearbox is standard on the 1.6 S and 2.0 SE models and a 6-speed manual gearbox is standard on the 2.7 V6 model. The Porsche designed 4-speed H-matic gearbox is optional on the 2.0 SE and 2.7 V6 models and offers the versatility of a 'stepped' manual transmission or a full automatic at the push of a lever.

The Coupe has proved a phenomenal success for Hyundai and this latest model has has won fans worldwide - even outselling the the FIAT Coupe in Italy.
Now it is time for the promised Hyundai Coupe review, the sun is out and all is good in the world, we are looking forward driving the Hyundai Coupe 2.7 V6.

Nicotine Won't Let You Quit Smoking

Trying to quit smoking? Does nicotine have a strong hold over you? It’s one of the most addictive substances on the planet - found naturally in tobacco. Although not illegal, it’s equally as addictive as cocaine or heroine, two illegal drugs known for their strong addictive qualities. Nicotine can be one of the hardest obstacles to overcome when you are trying to quit smoking.
When you use nicotine, your body begins to rely on it both mentally and physically. You can’t quit smoking because you have to face both the psychological and physical issues facing you at this point, which is often overwhelming for anyone.

It’s not the smoke itself that wreaks havoc on your addictions and makes it nearly impossible for you to quit smoking – it’s the nicotine that gets carried in the smoke deep into your lungs where it plants itself in your bloodstream and then moves to every available part of your body to affect your internal health.

Your heart and blood vessels, your brain, your hormones, and your metabolism are all directly affected by nicotine. Even though you may logically know the damage being done, your ability to quit smoking is diminished because the drug has the same effect as endorphins, releasing mood-elevating feelings that cause you to crave more.

But nicotine has another result. When you try to quit smoking, or even stay at the same number of cigarettes you currently smoke, your body triggers you to smoke more, telling you that you’ve become tolerant of your current usage. Nicotine can cause your body to react faster than if you were given a drug intravenously.

If you are able to quit smoking, nicotine will still reside in your body for up to four days after you stop using it. Your body will go into withdrawal, which is both a mental and physical obstacle you have to overcome.

While the physical portion of the addiction has to be dealt with through symptoms such as sleep disturbance, headaches, and dizziness, when someone quits smoking, the mental portion is noticeable when the newly ex-smoker starts dealing with depression, frustration, and anger that results from nicotine withdrawal.

Because of the pressure felt in both the mind and body, many smokers return to the bad habit so that the nicotine will erase the symptoms they’re feeling. The dilemma of withdrawal symptoms when someone quits smoking can last for days or weeks, depending on the severity of the addiction.

Eventually, the symptoms disappear and the strong hold nicotine has over the user loosens up its grip and allows the ex-smoker to break the habit for good. Most smokers have to try several times before they’re able to quit smoking forever, although many do it on the first try using smoking cessation aids.

How To Change Your Car's Oil

There are many places you can go to get your oil changed. Most of the places are not too expensive, but they are often busy, and it is hard to get to the shop when you are busy working. If you are interested in changing your car's oil yourself, there are things you should know. First of all most cars are pretty much the same in this regard. If you have changed one car's oil you can probably change it in most cars. While the oil pan may be located in a different area of each individual model it is generally on the bottom of the vehicle. Below are a few tips that will help you make this task easier.

You will need at least six quarts of oil. Preferably you should use the same type of oil as you had in the engine before.

You will also need to purchase a new oil filter designed specifically for the model of your car.

During an oil change most people also change the air filters on their cars. The air filter tends to become dirty in about the same time as the oil needs changing, especially on older model vehicles. Therefore it may not be a bad idea to purchase an air filter as well.

If you have not done any prior work on the vehicle at home, you will need to purchase a car jack or tire racks. These racks allow you to drive up on them to elevate the front end of the car where you will be working. If you are using a jack or the racks you will need to place blocks behind the other two tires to keep the car from rolling because the parking brakes do not always hold the grip reliably.Make sure that the parking brakes are on and that the transmission is in park position. You need to elevate the car so that the oil will run out of the oil pan completely as well as make it easier for you to reach the oil pan.

Prepare a canister or a pan to catch the oil in. Most auto parts shops including those online will have oil pans that you can drain the oil into. These pans have a special design to make disposing of the oil into an oil drum easy.

You will also need an oil filter wrench. This wrench must be the correct wrench for the size of filter you have. There are many sizes depending on the type of car you have.Another tool you will need is the wrench for the oil pan nut. This nut has to be removed to let the oil escape. This is usually a metric or standard wrench depending on who manufactured your car. The best tool for this job is a socket wrench.

Once you have all of the tools and other items you will need to locate the oil pan. It is best to look in your car's manual for this information. Keep plenty of towels on hand as well.

First, loosen the nut on the oil pan, making sure that you are prepared for the first gush of oil by having the waste pan underneath the oil pan.

Next, locate the oil fill cap and remove it. Some manuals may tell you to do this first. I have found that this creates more of a gush if you wait to remove the hexagonal nut after, so the potential for a spill is higher.

Once you have gotten the oil flowing out of the vehicle you can then set a bucket just under the oil filter. There will be a little oil drainage from the filter so having the bucket under there will help keep you from causing a spill. Once you have removed the old filter you can then screw on the new filter following the instructions on the box.

Now that you have removed all of the oil from your vehicle you will need to make sure that you replace the hexagonal nut on the oil pan and make sure that the oil filter is screwed on tight. Then you can begin replacing the oil. It is best to fill the engine with at least four quarts of oil and then let it settle. Check the engine oil level and then add a quart until it is full. Check with your manual on the exact amount of oil required for the engine.

How to Save Fuel

PLAN AND COMBINE YOUR TRIPS

* Plan your route to avoid needless traveling.
* Try to combine errands into one trip. Taking several short trips taken from a cold start can use twice as much fuel as a longer multi-purpose trip that covers the same distance when the engine is warm.
* Stagger your traveling time to avoid peak-hour rush. You spend less time getting stuck in traffic and consume less fuel too.
* Walk all short distances. Avoid driving if your destination is within walking distance. Not only do you save on fuel, it is a good form of exercise too.
* Take advantage of car pool. Take turns to drive with your neighbours, friends or colleagues.

KEEP YOUR CAR IN SHAPE

* Keep tyres properly inflated. The rolling resistance for under-inflated tyres will be greater and fuel consumption will increase. Properly inflated tyres are safer and last longer.
* Check for proper wheel alignment. More power is required to overcome improper alignment, and this in turn wastes fuel.* Keep your engine properly tuned.
* Use the correct octane rating that is appropriate for your car. Unless your car requires premium petrol, filling up your car with high-octane fuel that costs more would not boost your car's fuel economy or performance.
* Tighten up the fuel cap as fuel can evaporate from your fuel tank if it has an escape.
* Check and replace air filters regularly. Replacing a clogged air filter can improve your car fuel mileage and keeps impurities from damaging your car engine.
* Ensure that your car is serviced regularly in accordance to the service programme so that vehicle components that can affect fuel consumption can be inspected.

DRIVE MORE EFFICIENTLY

* Do not keep the engine idle as it uses more fuel and increase wear ad tear. Drive as soon as your engine is started, though slowly at first, picking up speed as you go. This way, the engine will warm up faster and lubricate faster. If you need to wait for more than 5 minutes, switch off your engine.
* Do not ride the brake and clutch pedals. This increases fuel consumption and causes needless wear on the brake and clutch.
* Accelerate gently, brake gradually and avoid hard stops. Aggressive driving (i.e. speeding, rapid acceleration and braking) wastes fuel. As fuel consumption increases dramatically over the first few hundred metres from a standing start, you should hence accelerate smoothly. Sensible driving is not only safer for you and other road users, it saves you fuel and money too.
* Maintain steady speeds for the best fuel economy. A car uses extra fuel when it accelerates.
* Use the air conditioner sparingly. Switch on the air conditioner only when it is necessary.
* Travel light. Clear out your boot and do not carry unnecessary weight as additional weight and vehicle add-ons have a negative effect on aerodynamics, causing engines to work harder and burn more fuel.

CHOOSE A MORE EFFICIENT VEHICLE

If you are thinking of buying or changing to a new vehicle, select a more fuel-efficient vehicle that will meet your needs.
Consider the following:
* Four-wheel-drive vehicles generally uses more fuel compared to other vehicles
* Vehicles with automatic transmissions may use more fuel than those with manual transmissions
* Smaller capacity cars usually equate with better fuel mileage
* Light interior and exterior colours and tinted windows can reduce heat build up, which saves on air-conditioning.

Alpine type r 15", best woofer i ever had, with strong, long deep bass, but it needs lots of power. right now, i have around 750 rms on it, it's nice, but i need MORE power!
